Day 64 Vence

We all agreed to have an easy day to recover. After breakfast the S's went out to do the shopping, while the K's walked up to the old town of Vence. Not for the first time we headed off in the wrong direction. At a roundabout a sign made clear that the Cité Historique was in the other direction, but the fixated mind was unwilling to accept this interpretation of reality. While in this state of uncertainty, a little old lady stopped her car and got out, crossed the road and started to talk to us, in French. At first we thought she was looking for directions, but then the penny dropped that she was seeking to help us, even offering to give us a lift. We declined but thanked her for her help and proceeded in a half-right direction, eventually getting there.

The old town is quite small (perhaps 200m in diameter), but very pretty. Late Sunday morning it was very busy with market stalls for produce and with lots of people populating the cafes.

Back at base we had an excellent lunch, accompanied by two bottles of rosé. Following this and a short siesta we set out again, accompanied by H and did another tour of the old town. This time we remembered to go past the tourist office, but of course it was closed on a Sunday.
