Day 59 Vaison, Faucon

Tuesday is market day Vaison La Romain, so we spent the morning there looking at the goods on offer and buying various foodstuffs for the next few days. I bought a coin purse and Joan bought a fleecy jacket, somewhat belatedly, so the comfort it provides is probably more psychological than physical.

After lunch back at base B and I headed off on a recommended walk to the neighbouring village of Faucon. We had trouble finding the start of the walk and we headed off in the wrong direction, spending 45 minutes on this detour. The walk was pleasant on a good road and trails and was not too strenuous, with rewarding views of the Provence countryside, including toward Mont Ventoux. Arriving in Faucon, our priority was to locate the pub so we could have a beer. A map of the town showing the pub location was less than accurate. After querying several locals, we found a watering hole on the edge of town with the best views yet of Mont Ventoux. With binoculars we could see that it did indeed have snow patches - not bad for mid-May and a mountain of only 1909 m.

This was one day when we were grateful to have the steady wind blowing as it helped us to keep cool and dry during our walk. We wouldn't have wanted to do this walk in the summer months. The return journey took only 55 minutes.
