Day 63 Vence

The drive to Vence was "interesting", not least because Bruce (the GPS) took us to the wrong place, but also because of his penchant for taking third class roads, i.e. goat tracks. The upside of this was that we got to see the Provence scenery in its full glory. This is almost certainly the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen - died and gone to heaven kind of thing.

Bruce took us to a place about 40 Km from our intended destination and on the way we passed through a posh plateau-top town called Montauroux, from which the descent to the coast gave us stunning views of Cannes and toward Nice. The time of day was just right for that last afternoon light. We dashed into the first visible supermarket and piled the shopping on our laps for the final push to our new lodgings. Naturally I sailed straight past it and had to turn around for another run. Then it was unclear which of two blocks of apartments at that address was the right one. One of our party was in urgent need of a loo and had to use the greenery while the uncertainty was resolved.

The apartment is smaller than the house in St Romain, but it does have a long terrace with good views to the hills behind Vence.
